Dr. James Finn weighs in on the Morford anti-rights screed

Dr. James Finn, a Northern California anaesthesiologist and gun owner, adds his own perspective in response to idiotarian Mark Morford's over-the-top editorial in the San Francisco Chronicle. - Ed.

"Mr. Morford:

This is an astonishingly close minded diatribe even for the SFGate. I am Libertarian, Stanford University educated, hold a professional degree, I do not hate the poor, I am not rabidly anti liberal, and I am certainly not racist. Oh yes, and I own firearms. And yet, because I recognize and respect what was obvious to the founders of this democracy, namely that firearms are instruments of political power as well as useful tools, somehow that makes me an evil misguided trisomic in your twisted thinking. I firmly believe in responsible, individual, firearms ownership, for the purposes of personal protection, sport, and as a reminder to those in government that we, unlike other "civilized" nations, are not "subjects" of the ruling political party. Interestingly, none of those evil black instruments you loath so thoroughly has ever jumped into my hand and induced me to shoot another human being.

We clearly have political differences, Mr. Morford, but they do not directly encompass firearms. We fundamentally differ in our respect and belief in the individual human being, and in his or her ability to ascertain and attain what makes their lives, and the lives of the ones they care about, fulfilled and happy. Your bigoted diatribe is a tribute to the "human being as victim" mentality which has infected many in our society today. I can assure you that there are many individuals, including well educated contributing members of our society, who see through that shallow emotional assessment of the human condition. You certainly do not speak for us.

James Finn
Santa Rosa, CA"
