I just now discovered the GunBroker firearms & accessories auction site. It's an eBay workalike person-to-person (and business-to-person) auction site. Buyers are still subject to the usual onerous BATF and state transfer paperwork and taxes on firearms (not accessories), but that's no fault of GunBroker.
The site would not exist, by the way, if eBay hadn't pulled the ridiculous and unnecessary stunt of disallowing firearms auctions in 1999. Some background on GunBroker's reason for being can be found in their news archives.

Arnold, please go to GunsAmerica and find the answer to your question.
God, I'm getting tired of dealing with idiots who can't read.
Posted by: Russell Whitaker on June 16, 2003 2:36 PMI got stung on a aution on Gun Broker.com. The sell was a scam all the way. I spoke with the PD in the seller's home town and they confirmed it. I filed a fraud claim with Gun Broke in Feb. 2005 - Sent all the receipts and info. I have not heard a word from them. They are very difficult people to contact. I can not find a address or phone number. Just a fax # that they never respond to.
Anybody happen to have any info that might help me to contact them.
When the deal sounds to good to be true--you know the rest. Don't count on the fraud insurance to bail you out.
Thanks
I donīt like gunbroker. There should come something better. The prices are as in a shop and you even have to pay for ffl and shipping. Iīve sold an item and the buyer did not pay for it.
Not w/th me
Posted by: Michael on September 8, 2005 7:27 AMI have used GunBroker.com for many years now. The prices have been much lower than in the stores. Every transaction has been very professional and easy. I have saved hundreds of dollars shopping and bidding on line.

Posted by: jthomas on December 14, 2005 9:35 PMI have purchased several firearms through gunbroker.com. I have been very satisfied with the purchases. average 35% below retail. ffl's and atf record keeping will protect you from prosecution in the unlikely event that you should recieve a stolen firearm. always contact the seller by phone and exchange vital info prior to sending payment. use a credit card if possible. get a business reference contact and verify who you are dealing with. but as always...there are no super deals...know your product. vinny....Arizona sherrif's association
Posted by: vinny on December 15, 2005 8:18 PMI have a problem with login on gunbroker . However, since I cannot login with them I cannot contact them. I cannot find a phone number or e-mail address or anything. Does anyone know how to reach them? Thanks.
Posted by: steve on January 11, 2006 2:58 PMI have been a seller on both Auction Arms and Gun Broker. There are pros and cons to both. Auction Arms was great as far as if there was a problem they would take care of it. The reverse side of that was that they would constantly monitor e-mails so if someone would make me an offer to sell it offline or do a trade, they would threaten to remove them. They had also told me that I could not sell items that I had in store online. Our sales grew when we moved to Gun Broker but it takes an act of God to get ahold of them. They have the worst customer service that I have ever seen. There web site continues to bounce you around back to the same pages.
Posted by: Ryan Horsley on January 16, 2006 11:01 AMFor collectors, which is what it really started out for, I would imagine it was quite handy.
Problem is, everyone with an FFL and contact at a wholesaler is now trying to be like a gun shop online. Prices should include the FFL transfer costs and always state the shipping costs.
I have bought several DU guns from there, but, the new firearms are just not discounted, for the most part, over what you can go to Wal-Mart and either by or order one thru them.
Beware the zero feedback sellers, and you should have a decent buying experience.
Truly, if it were more like an auction, instead of a buy-it-now showcase, it would be much much more popular. But, the number of listings would be much less.
Posted by: Steve on March 7, 2006 6:00 AMGunbroker insurance is a scam. I got ripped off on a purchase and Gunbroker has not stepped up to take care of anything. It has been over 6 months, I filed all the papers and police reports even mail fraud reports. They won't even return emails anymore
Posted by: Allen Moore on April 29, 2006 10:25 PMI also was ripped off on Gunbroker, and they have refused to refund my $90 on the Fraud claim I placed.
Their fraud insurance is a fraud!!!
I like Gunbroker, but buyer beware, because if you get ripped off your screwed.
Posted by: Joseph King on May 12, 2006 8:58 AMFor those that dont like Gun Broker there is www.gun-trade.com
They new i think.
I have dealt with GunBroker for several years now. There are plusses and minuses.
Good points are: very large selection - more apt to find exactly what you want
Easy to place adds - very professional site - easy to access adds. They allow enough pictures for full coverage of piece. Easy to modify adds.
I have made many successful sales and bought several deals I was happy with.
NOW THE DARK SIDE! ===
They are rude as HELL and they will NOT allow you to communicate with them REGARDLESS of how serious a grievance! They have NO phone number. They will NOT answer you even if you by a MIRACLE are able to navigate through their purposefully placed endless maze of dead ends.
They allow crooks to cheat honest people and will NOT lift a finger to correct an OBVIOUS fraud. Want to get an honest man banned from GB? Here's how to do it. Post phony pictures that make a total piece of trash look like a half decent piece - and if the prospective buyer asks questions - "How is the bore" - "is the finish original" etc - just lie about it. When he gets the garbage you sent him he will ask for a refund. Just contact GB FIRST and tell them that the buyer is a dead beat and refused to pay ( for the worthless misrepresented gun). The victim has 2 choices. Pay up and lose all his money or refuse and get thrown off Ebay as if HE were the crook! GB will NOT allow the honest man to defend himself - EVEN if he has witnesses and irrefutable evidence of fraud. This happened to a VERY close honest friend.
The odds - realistically - are in your favor - but remember - GB WILL not help you - PERIOD! They WILL probably side with the crook if he is able to contact them. YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN! DO NOT deal with any seller that does not offer a 3 day inspection. If he says "yes" but it is not in his add - ask him to say so in an Email to you. Overall - the risk is low and the site works well. They are just not what one would call " nice people" to deal with.
The day that someone comes up with a software program as slick and efficient AND treats customers with RESPECT and COMMON COURTESY - and provides a REAL METHOD of communication - even a 'toll' ph number - Gun Broker will be HISTORY! Just ask anybody that deals frequently on GB

Posted by: muhammed on October 27, 2006 1:23 AMGunbroker has several pros and cons.
**Pros: They have a large site with lots of stuff, sometimes too big. When I search for some items, I get 50 pages of junk. Takes some time to wade through the junk. Most are not really an auction but set at store prices. You can usually find what you are looking for on this site though.
**Cons: 1. Buyer beware, Gunbroker will not help you if you get scammed. The $500 fraud protection thing is just that, a fraud. I got screwed on a $1000 purchase and they ignored me for 11 months. I sent pictures and all documents, but no response. I finally kept opening new cases until they responded. Then they just said they don't cover condition issues, case closed. I finally sold my $1000 junk rifle for $450 just to get rid of it. It was really difficult to deal with them and I have never heard of anyone sucessfully getting paid on the fraud coverage.
2. Their site has technical problems. Quite often I cant get searches returned, probably because their servers are overloaded. Quite frustrating as I have to come back later to look things up.
**Alternative: Auctions Arms is a pretty good site and fairly large. THey have treated me well so far, and the searches are pretty fast. They do send somewhat threatening e-mails about selling outside of the auction, however the final sales prices fee is how they pay for their site. I'm sure alot of people try to get around the fees but that is not quite fair to the company.
There is a dual rule of thumb with auction sites--a sure way to pay too much and at times a sure way to find a treasure that others have overlooked and the owner doesn't know the value. If you get into a bidding war with some yuppie with a fat wallet kiss the good deal goodbye . I got a great deal on a broomhandle mauser that was being sold by an estate liquidater--no reserve on the auction--the ad was worded as though a gun magazine was being sold for $700--it was a 712 schnellfurer WITH a 20rd magazine. I got a gun for 700 that should have been a few grand. Will I get burned someday? That's the risk we take and we still make that leap of faith.
Posted by: Daniel Keating on February 13, 2007 7:50 PMI have been unable to contact in anyway Gunbroker about NOT being able to log on, I have several auctions happening and cannot get on, Internet is working but gunbroker keeps throwning an 'no network' and 'error' message up, can anyone help...

If you have problems with gunbroker or a transaction, you probably won't get any help from them unless you are a regular seller. There are some things you can do to help you feel better. First, they have a terrible rating with the Atlanta Better Business Bureau, you can add to the hole they are digging for themselves by filing a complaint with the BBB there. Their disregard for the BBB is a reflection of how they view their customers. The link for the BBB is http://www.atlanta.bbb.org/
You can also post your story on http://www.ihategunbroker.com/news.php
Outside of these alternative, there is little you can do.
Posted by: BM59 on May 26, 2007 11:11 AMYou can always do like me and start another firearms auction site. Gunsandall.com will someday be the answer to Gunbroker. :)

Posted by: david Lendosky on October 10, 2007 2:54 AMSomebody upthread mentioned there needs to be a better choice than Gunbroker...well there is one...Gunsandall.com. We haven't been up for long, and we're still small, but we're growing and we're determined to give the gun community a strong alternative to Gunbroker. We're free for the time being and we WANT to hear from our members when someone welches on a bid or doesn't ship their item. Gunsandall.com is committed to getting the word out about scammers and low lifes who prey on innocent buyers. If you have been banned from Gunbroker for reporting a crooked seller go to http://www.IHateGB.com and tell us about it. Getting the word out is the first step toward creating a solution.
Posted by: Donald on December 6, 2007 2:00 PMscrew gunbroker, its all about the seller (fees)
they will not respond or help a buyer resolve issues with sellers, i purchased a winchester trapper 44mag from a guy his name is James Bulthuis" he put on a large loop lever that was made buy a sh_t house machinest, in the picture it looked good , i went to shoot the rifle and there was a massave gas release from the breach the lever would not close all the way , i thought the rifle was going to blow back, the rifle was put on gunbroker a as new
, i contacted gunbroker to date they have not done anything about it , as far as i am concerned gunbroker sucks i would not use there site again, and if you come across the seller listed above do not buy from him , there are a lot of good peoiple i am sure on gunbroker, but by the way they do business , i would not use them ever
