James R. Rummel passes on a fascinating account of harassment of the Pink Pistols contingent by goons at the Stonewall Union gay pride march. The offending security guard - and her goons - seem to have bought hook, line & sinker the dogma that people with guns are predators, while in fact (in this case) they are usually protectors. If you read into the comments, you'll see where a legally savvy person notes the legal basis for taking the guard and her 20 goons to court, in some detail. Interesting indeed.

Before I got into IDPA shooting, I went to watch a match at the nearest large city. The participants were mostly "law enforcement", but the majority of those were actually guards at the local prison. Almost immediately, I was struck by the near-constant stream of homophobic humor they direct at one another. What was really surprising is that they were comfortable shouting these comments back and forth to one another in full view of complete strangers. I don't know if they were genuine homophobes or if this was just their type of humor, but I thought it would be a lot of fun to show up at the next match with a variety of rainbow badges and pink triangles sewn to my shooting vest. If nothing else, it might confuse them enough to let me win a match. Showing up with a .45 with rainbow grips would be even better, though.
