It's an arms race, really

Has anyone else here noticed just how remarkably easy it is to destroy cat toys?

The toy my two cats liked most was a mens flat hair brush, with stiff bristles. They loved being brushed so much that they would come when called for the pleasure.

If I put it where they could get to it, they would rub against it, and chew on it.

They also loved ping-pong balls, and shredding my couch.

Speaking of the couch, are you sure it's not simply that cats are exceptionally successful as destructive devices, not to be exceeded by anything made by man?

I once created the cat's favorite toy by accident. Debris lying around the house included a jingle-bell and a big goose feather; I stuck the quill through the bell's loop and ta-da, Lady Underfoot couldn't get enough of it.

Later I hung the feather-bell on the light switch chain in the livingroom, and was briefly puzzled at a persistent nocturnal noise:

jingle thump ... jingle thump ...
