L. Neil Smith on the "Hollow Woman"

I, like L. Neil Smith, didn't know until recently that the Statue of Liberty had been completely shut down since 11 September 2001, only recently re-opened "following about $7,000,000 worth of police state alterations." In an irony of circumstance that inspired the article's title, "Hollow Woman," the re-opening ceremony was presided over by a real-life hollow woman, Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton, whom Neil knew from her days in the Colorado Libertarian Party.

The wonder is that the Statue of Liberty was way offshore, and I don't see how it was at all affected by the collapse of the WTC buildings.

Then again, I don't really see why so many buildings in that area fell down. On the other tentacle, one does have to expect the police state to erect random and arbitrary barriers for sundry capricious violations of the Fourth Amendment. It is what they do best.

By the way, freedom, immortality, and the stars, are three of my favorite things. I write about them every week in the Indomitus Report.

I like Neil a great deal, having read nearly all the books he's written. I like most of his essays, as well. A great place to see his stuff is at his 'zine The Libertarian Enterprise which is http://www.ncc-1776.com/

The Libertarian Enterprise has moved to http://www.ncc-1776.org/ which is just as well.

The org is for orgasmatron, a Woody Allen "Sleepers" original.
