Despite the name, only 200-300 legs

This Giant African Millipede, or "Scaphiostreptus parilis acuticonus," is one of my biology instructor's personal pets:

Giant African Millipede

A pleasant little animal, and utterly harmless to humans.

I'd like to see him walk his pet on a leash... Now that would be interesting.

Say it's "harmless" all day long, I still get the willies just looking at it.

Does it learn tricks?

beautiful picture of a beautiful "bug". I love the info, and how to "sex' one's companions. Will try tonight. Glad to know that they don't just, um, squirt on me. When I was a kid in E. Africa, (visit, caucasian F) I do not recall them pooping on me. Is there a place to "talk" to others about these kids? This is my first captive bug experience with these guys...

Thanks!
