The New York Times is pushing hard on campus to pick up new student subscriptions for the paper edition: for the last few weeks, they've been giving away free copies, many of which end up as seat blotters on rainy benches. I picked up a copy last Thursday, and glanced through a fascinating and typically snide review of the Disney/Pixar flick "The Incredibles" which opened this last weekend. One of the reviewer's complaints was that the film apparently expressed, under the veil of comedy, an unrepentent disdain for mediocrity. The reviewer speculated that Ayn Rand was a likely influence on the filmmakers. Intruiging!
This morning, the first thing my o-chem professor asked me in lab was, "Have you seen 'The Incredibles'?" He was raving about it. I guess I should check this film out. Anyone seen it yet?
Posted by Russell Whitaker at November 8, 2004 03:59 PM | TrackBackHaven't seen it yet but I might since everyone is raving about it.
And while you are catching up on your movie viewing you might also want to watch the ultra gory Korean War epic, _Tae Guk Gi_, _Bang Rajan_ which is basically Thailand's answer to _Braveheart_ and _Ong Bok: Muay Thai Warrior_ which I consider to be THE action film of the year.
_The Grudge_ has it's moments but if you have already seen _Ju On 1 & 2_ then it is pretty predictable.
Onto the subject of DVDs, I highly recommend that you go out and buy a copy of the re-make of _Dawn of the Dead_.
In addition to twelve extra minutes which was trimmed from the theatrical version there are several bonus features one of which contains a simulated news broadcast of the spreading zombie plague. One segment of the simulated broadcast was filmed at the Angeles Shooting Range where many of the combative courses I attend are taught. In fact, Scotty Reitz and Brett McQueen of International Tactical Training Seminars Inc play themselves in this segment.
