Another image from my recent trip to Beijing, this one a sign at Beihai Park admonishing visitors not to do or bring certain things into the park. I'm still trying to figure out what it all means. One is a pictogram apparently forbidding rifles in the park:

I've gotta ask, what's the one in the top right hand corner forbidding?
Looks like it's a hooker ban. Spoilsports.
Posted by: James on April 18, 2005 12:01 PMI'll take a stab at it. Left to right, top to bottom: No...
motorcycles, picking flowers, climbing over fences, cars, littering, music playing, bending over(?), soccer, rifles, dogs, explosives, fires.
I guess that means frisbees and pistols are OK.
Posted by: Curt Howland on April 18, 2005 12:43 PMps, I'm certain they were also trying to be general, so no picking trees, no firearms at all, no field games, etc. I was trying for a touch of humor above....
Posted by: Curt Howland on April 18, 2005 12:45 PMNo Nothing! You will stand in the park and enjoy it!
Posted by: Dirk Koenig on April 18, 2005 02:18 PMNumber 4 is actually "no taxis."
I've noticed that Beijingers are pretty good at ignoring inconvenient rules.
Posted by: Russell Whitaker on April 18, 2005 06:44 PMI still prefer my "no hookers in the park" theory :)
Posted by: James on April 18, 2005 07:07 PMi think the "bender" is on skates
Posted by: Anton Sherwood on April 18, 2005 09:41 PMi think i can know all of them except the one i am not very sure in row1 column 3
most of them which Curt Howland had metioned are almost currect,
"motorcycles, picking flowers, climbing over fences, cars, littering, music playing, bending over(?), soccer, rifles, dogs, explosives, fires."
i think row 1 column 3 means do not bent over when you are sitting near a lake or ...
row 3 column 1 means do not skating
row 4 column 2 means do not play firecracker
