The all-time busiest on this blog: the American Community Survey

A year and a half ago, I posted "'None of Your Business!': the American Community Survey" in which I reported on Ron Paul's opinions on an illegal expansion of the U.S. Census. In the time since, by what admittedly are very modest standards compared to much more popular poltically-oriented blogs, the post has generated a consistent level of interest, not so much from what little I said, but from a snowball effect brought on by the increasingly large number of comments from people who've been harassed by minions of the American Community Survey.

Makes me glad that I didn't shut down my blog some months ago, as I'd considered doing.

A Livejournal blogger, harmlessinc, has linked to my article as a repository for real-life harassment stories.

As said blogger, yes I'm very glad you didn't shut down your blog. :)

Thanks for allowing all of us to benifit from the information provided in your original posting and the many stories that were shared as a result of it.

Much appreciated! Thanks!

By the way, looks like the ACS people and/or the Census Bureau have taken an interest; from my website stats package, yesterday's accesses:

69 0.34% bcccache6-2.tco.census.gov

Further investigation into my own site's activity logs shows that two weeks ago, some Census Bureau functionary used my search engine to look for ACS-related information here:

2006.03.04 04:40:15 148.129.74.41 Search: query for 'american community survey'
2006.03.04 04:42:28 148.129.74.41 Search: query for 'american community survey'

I confimed the match on the IP address using 'dig':

bcccache6-2.tco.census.gov. 259200 IN A 148.129.74.41

Looks like they're taking notice. Whether this means more harassment, or calling off the ACS dogs, I don't know. I suspect the former.

That is really amazing! Please don't shut down the blog. It is such a great public service. Thanks again.

Don't worry, I won't shut it down now.

By the way, someone from the Census Bureau is now regularly checking into the ACS related postings on this blog. Heh.

Well, We've gotten one not long ago, but as far as I'm concerned, I use my mailbox in this secure apartment building for praticaly nothing. Usualy, its just junk mail, and is used for birdcage lining. I never look to see where things come from in that mailbox, cause its probably junk (and this is). If I see "Current Resident" or any crap like that, in the trash, or on the bottom of the bird's, or snake cage it goes. Who's to say that I ever knowingly "received" it? NOrmaly, since I have more then enough lining for the cages, I just throw all that stuff out in the hallway trash.

I'm not too concerened about this thing, but if they think they are going to get any info other then 2 1/2 adults, then they are dead wrong. If any worker has the guts to come into my home, I cant wait to see their face! between all the serpents, snake food, and other interesting creatures that I care for, I dont think they will come here often, as usualy, I have some sort of snake hanging around my neck, and if it makes them feel uncomfortable, hell, its not like I have to make them feel welcome in my home, nor did i request them to come here, so they can leave at any point in time. Its just too bad i live in this building, my rott and pit would have loved to of played tag with whomever would have ever came near the home.

About a 1.5 years ago I posted on here about my experience with the Census Bureau. This article linked from the drudge report validates my views about information security with the department of commerce.

Scary.

And thanks for not shutting this down. Independent information about the American Community Survey is hard to come by. You'd think the ACLU would attack this stuff instead manger scenes.
