OK, so I finally upgraded to MT4.1, which worked fine... until I horked the templates. I'll take care of this mess later tonight, after I get back from class.

Really sorry to bother you but I am having a slight problem with scsi tape drive and after searching the net for ages found your comments on a very similar problem. Was trying to find your email but only found the comments section.
I have 4 tapes ( DLTs) from 2003 no idea of the format ( tar? dd?) tried everything including your option from sept 2003. Even managed to get a testfile with part of the data displayed. Went to tar but got - cannot allocate memory. Even after checking the blocksize et al. I am at my wits end here in Scotland as my company support is terrible and the day is getting worse. Could you find a little time to help a damsel!!
